Solving The Problem

In my opportunity of producing and marketing an alcoholic beverage appealing to the student body of universities I hope to put sustainability and alcohol together, so we can have fun while saving our planet. I believe it would be a profitable business idea to implement this product in the alcohol market and to market the product as a “green” solution to drinking. The two problems my interviews made me realize were that I would need to get licensing and follow up on regulations regarding consumable products and that I would need to get a scientist to help me create the actual drink itself. One of the solutions I came up with to clear out the licensing and regulatory issues presented in my opportunity were to get my cousin who is getting a master’s degree in tax law here at the University of Florida to point in the right direction or give me a contact that would be able to help me out. The solution to my second problem which is creating the product itself would be solved by me asking one of my engineer friends to either join the project and become a share-holder of the company or pay one of them to find me the ideal drink.

  1. Hello, again, Ricardo! It’s interesting to see your progression with the opportunity you have decided to pursue. I’m impressed with your drive and ability to compile your resources to address any issues that cross your path. The one minor detail I thought of when thinking about putting alcohol in a cardboard container is the taste. While some people may not care how the alcohol they drink tastes, I know plenty of people who do care and would prefer only to drink if the taste was more than just bearable. This issue goes along with creating the drink itself and working with a scientist, so, I simply advise you to keep this in mind in your execution of this solution.

  2. Ricardo, I think that your solution has a lot of thought put into it and that while there would be high barriers to entry I also think that your idea would be able to work. It would be a lot of work but I think it would provide a much more sustainable solution to having cans and glass bottles. While these can be recycled there is more work involved in recycling these items over paper.

  3. Hey Ricardo,
College students definitely love alcohol and sustainability, so I think there is potential for your product. An issue I could see arising is that sustainable products are often more expensive, and college students almost always grab the cheapest item (I mean, does anyone on earth actually prefer to drink natty light). If you could utilize your resources and make a cheap, sustainable drink, it could be very successful.
