Forming An Opportunity Belief

1)    I do believe there are plenty of opportunities out there but one that really catches my eye is how people are always so fed up with how on social media there is basically only supper leftist opinions or extremely right. Just how CNN is clearly democratic and Fox News is obviously more inclined towards the republican side of the political system. I think there is a great opportunity to create a news channel that focuses on both aspects of the political system and attacks both sides with equal amount of force.
2)    The main unmet need is that people tend to be bias due to where and how we get our information on politics and I believe the public needs a news company that will attack both sides of the political spectrum fairly. This is a need that has become more and more important as the years have gone by and technology along with the way information travels have evolved. In order to meet this need now people are posting their bias opinions on social media and think they are right for doing so creating an immense social divide. I believe this is possible to a 90% degree only because politics are so saturated with power already it may be hard to implement such a business.
3.1)    Ryan Lancaster (My manager at Boost Mobile)
4.1)     After speaking with my manager from Boost Mobile I thought he seemed interested in the idea but said it would be almost impossible or very difficult to implement due to the nature politics. Ryan said he thought it was a good idea and that the country is in dire need of something like that just that he thinks in order to get to that point you need to have a lot of power and connections in the political system. He stated he hadn’t really thought he needed it because he watches both Fox News and CNN but that if it was available now he would definitely use it. He first became aware of the need during the interview because he thought he was already getting both sides since he watches both Fox and CNN. He was addressing this need as something that I very skeptical but if implemented would go a long way. He was satisfied with the solution because the overall idea he said was great just as I stated before he was not to convinced something like this would ever be able to get started.
5.1)    What I learned the most from this interview when it came to my opportunity was that it would be a lot more difficult to implement such an idea than I thought it would have been but Ryan presented me with some good counterpoints. I took away that it is much easier to say business ideas involving politics than actually carrying them out.
3.2)    Nay Williams (Coworker)
4.2)    I interviewed my coworker and her name is Nay Williams, Nay really liked the idea and said that she would watch a program like that over CNN and Fox News any day. The need is something she said was crucial for our country in order to stop the divide that is currently growing. Based on what Nay said stating she prefers a program like this over CNN and Fox News I believe suggests she would use it on the daily or at least weekly. Nay also mentioned how she has been talking to her peers about why it always either has to be republican or democrat and that why can’t there be a middle ground where the best factors from each ideology are implemented. However, she did not mention she had thought of a middle ground program that would compete with CNN and Fox News. The way Nay described this need was that it had to be implemented as soon as possible, therefore, I believe she is addressing my opportunity in a good manner. Based on what Nay stated throughout the interview it was more than clear to see she was very satisfied with the solution and wished to see something like that in the United States as soon as possible.
5.2)   I learned from this interview that my opportunity has individuals that would be in favor and believe it is a possibility for the future. I was really surprised because of how in awe Nay got after I stated my opportunity, it made me feel I could make a difference or at least that I know how to.
3.3)    Maria Marin
4.3)  Maria Mairn is my cousin who owns a private jet company and is very knowledgeable which is the reason why I chose her for my interview. First of all she is fully republican and stated that the idea overall is fantastic, however, she believes it would be very difficult to implement such a company. The reason being is because of the friction it would cause in the political scene and that many powerful people would be opposed. She stated how this is a need the country really needs at the moment because of all the division because of politics in the recent years. She mainly blamed Trump for their having to be a need of this manner for the country, however, she still supports his economic views. She became aware that this would be a need I believe during the interview because of the simple fact she had never really given this topic much thought. Maria stated she would definitely be a viewer if such a program were able to be implemented. I don’t think she really had the need before the interview, again because she simply hadn’t given it much thought. She is addressing to the need as something she would be interested in but at the same time is not dying for and will be just fine without. It seemed to me that my cousin was satisfied with the overall goal of the need which of course is a solution to the ongoing social divide in our country.
5.3)  The main thing I learned from my interview with Maria is that even older people in their 30’s and expanding businesses would be interested in such an idea but at the same time are not in dire need of anything of the sort. I was surprised because I thought she was going to tell me that it was almost impossible like Ryan but she said that if I try hard enough she does not see how I cannot reach my goal.
7) I think a good amount of my initial opportunity is still there because after all none of my interviewees said the need did not appeal to them or say it would not help or thrive if it were implemented. I don’t think my opportunity is more accurate than I started because Ryan made some great points as to how saturated and controlled the political system along with social media is at the moment. I most definitely would say that there needs to be a certain level of adaptation for entrepreneurs because all in all they are adapting to potential clients needs and wants which is crucial for any company to thrive. After all customer feedback is one of the most important things when it comes to bettering a company because the customers are the ones who keep the company thriving.

  1. Hey Ricardo, I really like your idea of creating a non-bias news source. In today's world, like you said, there are several news stations that are clearly very biased toward a certain political side. Even though I think its a good idea, I think it would be very difficult to implement. Aside from the barriers to entry of creating a new reporting business, media companies have a lot of influence over there viewers. Between multi-billion dollar companies and numerous politicians I think that creating a successful, non-biased news source would be very challenging.

  2. Hey Ricardo,
I completely agree that lots of news stations have bias and it's an issue that needs to be addressed. However, I do agree that it would be very challenging to implement. The interview with Maria gave me the thought that rather than a whole news station, non-biased news could be delivered much easier to a young crowd through a podcast or even a youtube channel. I agree that less conflict in the news would bring the country together and hope there is a good solution out there.

  3. Ricardo,
This is a great idea because you are right when you say that news stations are often very bias. There are many people out there that want a non-biased view of what is going on in our country. It would be difficult to stay non-biased because a big part of political news is discussion and analysis of facts. It would be tough to keep opinions fully out of news. I do think it is an avenue worth exploring though.
