Your Ventures Unfair Advantage


1)    My uncle that is very knowledgeable about the food industry and luckily also sells bottled drinks in Ecuador.
2)    I have been saving money my whole life and have about $15,000 therefore meaning that financial capital is covered.
3)    My father owns a publicity company and he could help me create the logo and anything that has to do with publicity.
4)    My girlfriends brother is a computer science engineer getting a PhD at Georgia Tech and he can create an app for my company that would help a great deal.
5)    I own a shirt press and I can make shirts with my product on it and give them out to my friends for free as a way of publicity.
6)    My best friend Valentina’s father has many connections in the supermarket realm here in the United States and I sure he could he me reach out so I can get my first big clients.
7)    My very close friend is a chemical engineer and also goes to Georgia Tech University I could ask him to help me come up with a great tasting formula for my drink.
8)    My father also owns a factory that creates cart board products in Ecuador, I could produce my product in Ecuador and bring it over here in a container it would still be cheaper than finding a factory in the United States.
9)    My grandfather owns a plastic production company and I could tell him to help me design a mouth piece for my product.
10) I have a friend that is part of the sustainability club here at UF and I could ask her to tell her friends in the club to promote my product around campus.

Most Important VRIN: I believe that the most important VRIN resource is number five simply because it has the most points out of all the other resources I listed. Not everybody has a shirt press that they will be able to use to their advantage. Through this resource I will be able to market and spread my idea all throughout campus for free because I am the owner of the shirt press. In university it is an extremely great tactic that I have figured out because of my experiences in order to ultimately be able to spread my ideology throughout my main customer base.

  1. Hello Ricardo! Among your ten unique resources, the one you identified as your most important, your owning of a shirt press, is valuable, but I find it interesting that you think it is your most important. You say it would be good for advertising, which I think is true; however, there are also other free modes of marketing apart from shirts which may end up taking more time, meaning money, than initially anticipated. Social media is a great way to advertise and reach numerous people through tags and the like at no cost. I suggest taking this in account in addition to any physical advertising you may do.

  2. Hey Ricardo,
    You have a lot of valuable resources at your disposal. One thing i noticed about your list is that it is almost all social capital. This is great because it shows how vast you social network is. You have a ton of connections that may be valuable if you start a business. However, i think you should also think about other beneficial resources such as human capital. For example, having an education from UF is a valuable resource.
